Zinn died a week ago and in a recent interview said he'd like to be remembered for "getting more people to realize that the power which rests so far in the hands of people with wealth and guns, that the power ultimately rests in people themselves and that they can use it."

Watched Fahrenheit 9/11 again the other day. I must say I find Moore’s documentaries pretty one-sided and a bit too emotive (though he does a good job of providing fact back-up here), but it was a timely reminder of the fuck up that has been the Bush administration. A brief clip below to stir the memory of Bush’s inauguration in 2001 - might be interesting to compare it to Obama’s next week.

It’s one week into the New Year and I’m feeling damn inspired; the most since my autumn crack-up, maybe even the most I’ve felt in any New Year. Thankfully, this time the inspiration has been chummed up with a rather healthy bellyful of willpower. Something I’m normally frustratingly unfamiliar with - I’m typically an enthusiastic starter of things, but rarely make the first bend, let alone finish. Not sure why, but who cares - this year willpower is upon me and I must say I’m rather enjoying the company.

'K, so I finished the sucka. 50,000 words in thirty days, most (not all) of them complete fudge. It wasn't without its casualties though - both fictional and real. After staying up until 3AM on the penultimate day, losing my literary virginity in a scotch-fuelled Mills & Boon-esque awkward encounter between the main character and his nemesis's sister, I was up again at the crack of dawn to toss most of the characters onto a fire that engulfed the final pages of the novel. A glass of champagne later and it was into the car to drive through a sodden night down to Cornwall for the weekend.

My anti-hero, Robin Hartley, is doing very well thank you very much. He's shacked up with that bird Cara I was telling you about. Very soon, I know - perhaps even too soon (we shall have to wait and see) - but its my story and I'm in charge. And I kinda wanted to get to the juicy stuff, ya know? I've got a pretty good idea of what that juicy stuff is gonna be (I'll sneak in at least one more 'special' frappuccino), but what I'm really enjoying is just letting the bastard free within some really light structure and seeing what the hell he gets up to.
