Zinn died a week ago and in a recent interview said he'd like to be remembered for "getting more people to realize that the power which rests so far in the hands of people with wealth and guns, that the power ultimately rests in people themselves and that they can use it."

Last week I paid twenty bucks for seven minutes with Sirocco the Kakapo as part of New Zealand Conservation Week at the Auckland Zoo. Not sure how much Stephen Fry's photographer paid, but I certainly didn't get as intimate as this. Lucky bastard...

My new addiction is to ruthless management of a trickle of updates, photos that I actually find I want to know. Watched Fahrenheit 9/11 again the other day. I must say I find Moore’s documentaries pretty one-sided and a bit too emotive (though he does a good job of providing fact back-up here), but it was a timely reminder of the fuck up that has been the Bush administration. A brief clip below to stir the memory of Bush’s inauguration in 2001 - might be interesting to compare it to Obama’s next week.

It’s one week into the New Year and I’m feeling damn inspired; the most since my autumn crack-up, maybe even the most I’ve felt in any New Year. Thankfully, this time the inspiration has been chummed up with a rather healthy bellyful of willpower. Something I’m normally frustratingly unfamiliar with - I’m typically an enthusiastic starter of things, but rarely make the first bend, let alone finish. Not sure why, but who cares - this year willpower is upon me and I must say I’m rather enjoying the company.

The title might not sound like it, but Fuck It is indeed a book; not just any book though - it is a handbook on the 'Ultimate Spiritual Way' (author’s words). Quite an ambitious statement, but I found myself in almost total agreement with the author by the end. Even now, months after reading, I find myself quietly muttering ‘Fuck It’ to at least one thing a day that just isn’t worth worrying about...
