I used to hate eating veggies when I was a young lad. Big chunks of meaty lasagne, bursting snags, salty corned beef, chewy rump steak, even rolled up slices of cold luncheon sausage…phwoar, that was more like it…
The past two and a half years though, the closest thing to a beastie that has passed my lips has been a surprise anchovy stuffed inside a spainish olive. After a youth spent devouring all sorts of animals in vast quantities, my shimmy into vegetarianism came quite unexpectedly. As unexpected as that sneaky anchovy I guess, but in a different way all together – quite a pleasant one which I’m bloody pleased took place.
It’s National Vegetarian Week in the UK come May 21st. If you’re a seasoned animal eater it’s a good chance to give a vegetarian diet a go for seven days and see what you think – you’d be surprised at the quality and quantity of vegetarian fare available in stores and restaurants over here.
And aside from reducing the number of animals slaughtered that week you’ll be lowering greenhouse gas emissions, conserving water/land use AND improving your health.
Give it a go. You’ve got nothing to lose…
…but I like eating animals. They’re tasty!
